The building of the new Waikato Regional Theatre in south Victoria Street is underway. We can follow the progress on the websites of Share the Stage and the Waikato Regional Theatre
https://sharethestage.co.nz
and in particular: https://sharethestage.co.nz/updates
and
https://waikatoregionaltheatre.co.nz/updates
The Share the Stage site – https://sharethestage.co.nz/ – is for the whole community, presenting news stories and insights about both the Theatre building and what’s going to happen in it.
Whereas the Theatre Construction site – https://waikatoregionaltheatre.co.nz/ – carries notices about upcoming construction work and things like traffic disruptions, as it is aimed for those living and working around the site.
The new development will retain and restore the façade of the old Hamilton Hotel, a heritage building. It is due to open 2024.
The latest update can be found on:
https://sharethestage.co.nz/share-the-stage-update-september–btzycs
and includes information about the building progress, saved historic items from the old hotel, ‘Pleased do take a seat’ campaign to name a seat in the new theatre with a donation of $1500, and the Share the Stage Showcase concert of local talent on 28th October.
