As a group, we collectively read:
What Alice Forgot (2009)
The Hypnotist’s Love Story (2011)
Big Little Lies (2014 )
The Husband’s Secret (2013)
Nine perfect Strangers (2018)
Apples Never Fall (2021)
As a group, we found her novels light, entertaining and easy reads. The novels are fast and pacy, with humour, sparky dialogue, interesting characters, and unexpected turns in the story line. We could see why her books are popular and categorised in the both the general fiction and thriller genres. She takes on some serious and meaty issues for women and mothers, such as guilt, domestic violence, body image, being a solo mother, careers, insecurity, children on the internet, rape, and bullying. Her books are mainly written for women, with the main characters being women. However, the characters tend not to have depth. The finale of the storyline is often followed by the tying together of minor story lines and characters, often with happy endings. Her story lines are most adaptable for episodes for TV series and in this sense she can be seen as a commercial author.
